Mounjaro Stories: An Interview with Morgan Couch

Welcome to the first, 'Mounjaro Stories,' where we share inspiring and insightful conversations with individuals navigating their health journeys using Mounjaro. Our aim is to highlight real experiences, celebrate successes, and offer valuable perspectives from those who are actively transforming their health. We begin the series with Morgan Couch. We reached out to Morgan via email, and she kindly shared her experience in managing her health journey with Mounjaro.

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background (age, lifestyle, health history, etc.)?

My name is Morgan Couch. I’m 30 years old, lightly active, and have been living with type 2 diabetes since age 20. I currently weigh about 205 lbs and stand 5’2”.

What led you to consider Mounjaro? (Was it recommended by a doctor, personal research, a specific health concern?)

I’ve previously tried medications like Trulicity, Ozempic, and Rybelsus, all recommended by my endocrinologist because of my diabetes. Unfortunately, Trulicity and Ozempic made me quite sick, and Rybelsus didn’t improve my blood sugar as much as I’d hoped. That led me to give Mounjaro a try.

When did you start taking Mounjaro, and what were your initial expectations?

I started about a month ago. I expected it might reduce my “food noise,” but given my past experiences, I wasn’t expecting significant weight loss.

What was your first experience like? Did you notice any immediate changes?

In the first month, I’ve been sick twice—experiencing nausea and vomiting one time, and stomach pain and nausea another. However, I’ve also noticed I feel full quicker during meals, especially recently.

Were there any challenges or surprises in the beginning?

Interestingly, before Mounjaro, I craved water constantly, but now drinking water feels difficult. My biggest challenge has become staying hydrated and ensuring adequate protein and fiber intake.

How has Mounjaro impacted your weight, blood sugar levels, energy, or overall well-being?

My weight hasn’t changed dramatically, hovering around 205-210 lbs. However, my blood sugar stays within range about 70% of the time, which is a significant improvement. I’ve also noticed increased energy and a stronger inclination to choose healthier meals.

Have you experienced any side effects? How have you managed them?

Yes, I’ve dealt with nausea and stomach discomfort. Given my past severe reactions to similar medications, I’m proactively taking prebiotic/probiotic supplements and vitamins, and eating probiotic-rich foods like yogurt to protect my gut health.

What non-scale victories (NSVs) have you noticed (e.g., improved mobility, better sleep, increased confidence)?

My sleep quality has dramatically improved—tracked through my Garmin watch and Oura ring—from a previous range of 50-70 up to 70-90. The increased energy also motivates me to work out more frequently.

Has Mounjaro influenced your approach to diet, exercise, or other lifestyle habits?

Absolutely. Mounjaro, coupled with supportive friends and family, has helped me make smarter nutritional choices. Seeing improved glucose levels motivates me to prioritize my health and fitness.

Have you made any long-term changes to support your health journey?

Yes, I’ve significantly reduced my intake of fried foods because they worsen my symptoms. I’m also making a conscious effort to stop eating after 8 PM to help my pancreas adjust and improve my sleep.

What has been the biggest mindset shift for you since starting Mounjaro?

The noticeable boost in energy and maintaining steady glucose levels have been huge for my mindset.

Have you faced any emotional or mental hurdles along this journey?

When I eat poorly, my body reacts negatively—either through low energy or increased nausea. This has been an emotional learning curve, reinforcing that healthy food choices directly impact how I feel.

What kind of support system do you have (friends, family, online communities, healthcare providers)?

I’m lucky to have an excellent endocrinologist who genuinely listens. My sister motivates me positively, and my fiancée is incredibly supportive, helping me find enjoyable meals that suit my diabetic needs. My friends encourage fitness activities, and my best friend, who’s on Zepbound, is inspiring as she experiences significant weight loss through diet and exercise.

Have you found any resources (books, podcasts, social media groups) particularly helpful?

TikTok has been my main resource, especially @TaylorMaeMCD. Her relatable content and practical tips have been incredibly helpful on my Mounjaro journey.

What advice would you give to someone considering Mounjaro for the first time?

I would advise focusing on hydration, protein, and fiber from the start.

If you could go back to your first day on Mounjaro, what would you tell yourself?

Drink more water. If I’m feeling hungry, try drinking a glass of water first to see if I’m genuinely hungry.

What’s next for you in your health journey?

I’m focused on weight loss now. I’m learning to run, and losing weight will ease the impact on my knees and further motivate my fitness journey.

Where can people follow your journey?

I have a blog called Cold Foam Media. Although I haven’t started blogging specifically about my GLP-1 journey yet, this might be a great opportunity to share my experience and hopefully inspire others as Taylor Mae inspired me! Check it out at https://coldfoam.blog/
